Afghanistan started working on this route in 2010.

Mozamil Shenwari, the Deputy Minister of Commerce and Industries, says Afghanistan will soon sign agreement with countries situated along the Lajward Transit Road, including Turkmenistan and Turkey.

Recently the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) had announced that the work on Lajaward Transit Road Agreement has been set in motion. Under this agreement, Afghanistan will be connected to Europe through Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Turkey, passing through Black Sea and Mediterranean Sea.

Shakaib Mostaghni, spokesperson in MoFA, said the road will directly connect Afghanistan’s with Europe, which will immensely help Afghan traders explore markets for their products and goods in Europe.

Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey are situated along the Azure Transit Road. All these countries have robust roads and railways for transit, which will be effective for the early execution of the project.
